Wagyu History

Wagyu cattle have been a cornerstone of Japanese culture for generations. From practical farming use to meat production, the prestige of Wagyu genetics has blossomed in recent years. In a twist of fate, Japan exported a number of Wagyu cattle to the United States before realizing their mistake; quickly becoming a national treasure in this new land. However, there have been no Wagyu exported since the mid-1990s. Since then, an international community of breeders have commercialized Wagyu outside of Japan. The Australians have led this charge and pushed Wagyu to perform in the Western cattle industry. At Deep Oak, we embrace the data-driven direction of the industry while continuing to use foundation genetics from the original imports; forming a blended approach.
